Bread Sponsor Needed, Hospitality Thursdays, and More…

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SPONSOR GCW BREAD?  One of the favorite parts of Dorothy’s Cafe is our home-baked bread but it takes a lot of flour! We are still looking for anyone willing to “sponsor” our bread by purchasing bulk flour from the Citizens Co-op. The Co-op has been so kind to extend to us a discount so it comes to just $22 for a 20 lb bag of organic whole wheat or white flour. Sugar, yeast, salt, and beans are also appreciated. Ask for details on ordering.  Contact gvillec@yahoo.com for more information.

OTHER GCW NEEDS:

  • Blankets and sleeping bags
  • Very sturdy large drinking glasses (not small juice glasses). Thrift store or garage sale finds are very welcome!
  • Spoons
  • Tools (hammers, screwdrivers, etc.)
  • Old white sheets for the Art-for-All crew

HOSPITALITYWe have begun offering hospitality to our guests on Thursday afternoons from 1-4pm.  The first day was a success with the House crew offering haircuts, showers, minor first aid and respite and drinks.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Daniel at 863-207-3670, or gvillecw@yahoo.com

COFFEE SHOPSMonday, Tuesday and Friday mornings from 7:30-9:30 we will be having our usual coffee shops–volunteers asked to arrive at 7:15 if possible.  Volunteers are also needed for cleanup from about 9:30-10:30 AM.  Donations of breakfast foods such as fresh fruit, boiled eggs, baked goods, and fair trade coffee are welcome.  Contact gvillecw@yahoo.com to sign up to volunteer or to bring food.

DOROTHY’S CAFÉAs usual, we will be serving a nutritious home-cooked meal in a hospitable atmosphere this Wednesday.  Preparation is from 9:30-12, serving/clean-up from 12-2:30, and clean-up from 2:30-3:30.  Contact us at gvillecw@yahoo.com for more information, or click here to sign up.  PLEASE NOTE: We will not need quite as many volunteers this week, as a group from United Church of Gainesville is coming to help; this is reflected in the sign-up link.

MICROFARM MORNINGCome help at Black Acres Microfarm this Thursday morning from 8am-11:30.  Contact Jade Allen via email (jadesallen@yahoo.com) or phone (352-337-0817) for questions &/or directions to BAM (very centrally located in the heart of Gainesville).

ART-FOR-ALL: Art-for-All is meeting this Saturday from 2-4pm at the Green House.  If you enjoy crafting and turning up-cycled items into something beautiful, please join them!  No prior crafting experience required.  Children are welcome.

QUOTATION OF THE WEEK

Thus says the LORD:
Share your bread with the hungry,
shelter the oppressed and the homeless;
clothe the naked when you see them,
and do not turn your back on your own.
Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
and your wound shall quickly be healed;
your vindication shall go before you,
and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.
Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer,
you shall cry for help, and he will say: Here I am!
If you remove from your midst
oppression, false accusation and malicious speech;
if you bestow your bread on the hungry
and satisfy the afflicted;
then light shall rise for you in the darkness,
and the gloom shall become for you like midday.

Isaiah 58:7-10
